Ambulance services are calling on people in the borough to volunteer to become a community first responder (CFR).

St John Ambulance has been running the CFR scheme since 2009 in partnership with London Ambulance Service and is calling on people in Enfield and Edmonton to make a difference.

Each volunteer is trained to manage emergency situations and use basic life saving techniques.

To encourage more people to take part, the service will be holding an information evening on Wednesday, May 7 at 7.30pm in the St John Ambulance HQ, Shirley Road, Enfield.

David Forward, an active responder in Enfield and the unit manager for Enfield, Edmonton and Haringey areas, said: “I started responding after doing a First Aid at Work qualification with St John Ambulance as it gave me an opportunity to use the skills that I had been taught.

“I can assure you of the reward and pleasure that you feel when you see someone out and about in the street, when you know that you helped them or even saved their life.”
