Enfield’s three MPs remained mostly in budget for their expenses last year.

Figures revealed by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Agency showed that in the 2013-2014, only Andy Love, MP for Edmonton, exceeded his budget in one of the categories.

The Labour MP spent £27,215 on office costs, £1,865.03 over his budget maximum for the year.

He has agreed to offset this by reducing his maximum budget for the 2014-15 budget.

Enfield North MP Nick de Bois spent £22,305 of his £25,350 office budget, while Enfield Southgate MP and fellow Conservative David Burrowes spent just £11,748.

Mr Burrowes and his staff also claimed nothing on his travel around his constituency as well as to and from parliament whereas Mr Love's and Mr de Bois' staff claimed £976 and £1,377 respectively.

Mr Burrowes said: "I don't claim travel expenses because I don't think the taxpayer should foot the bill for me travelling around by public transport, car or bike."

In terms of staffing costs, budgets ranged from £138,000 for Mr Burrowes to £150,000 for Mr Love.

Mr Burrowes claimed £135,369, Mr Love £141,246 and the Mr de Bois claiming £129,413 for staffing costs.

Mr Love said: “The office costs category covers everything from office rent, insurance, alarm system, and amenities to computers and telephone bills.

"If an MP goes over their stationery budget, future stationery costs are also then taken out of the office costs budget.  As an MP representing a constituency with a huge caseload I have always been close to the top of my office costs budget.

"Since the Government introduced a number of welfare changes, like the bedroom tax, I have seen a dramatic increase in casework and this is reflected in my increased office costs in the 2013/14 financial year.”

The basic salary of all three MPs was £66,396.
