A man is on a mission to revolutionise the way maths is taught at schools.

In a bid to inspire primary school pupils to make maths more fun, Mr Numbervator has been going from school to school in Enfield to help improve grades.

Known as Isaac Anoom when outside the classroom, the maths enthusiast will take special half-day or full-day sessions to help Year 6 pupils achieve top SATs results.

Mr Anoom's unique way of teaching maths struck a chord with pupils at Raynham Primary School, in Raynham Road, Edmonton, where Mr Numbervator donned his trusty costume to help teach children.

He told the Enfield Independent his passion for the subject stems from his first ever maths lesson, more than 40 years ago.

He said: “I still remember my first ever maths lesson, even to this day. It was with a woman called Gertrude Tate, and the way that she taught maths in the classroom had me captivated for every lesson.

“Her passion is something which has inspired me to continue what she used to teach in this way.”

A teacher for more than 30 years, Mr Numbervator has appeared on television, presenting his own maths programme to captivate young viewers.

Turning his attention to Enfield for the past five years, Mr Numbervator believes pupils in the borough are special and have great potential.

He said: “Children in Enfield are fantastic and have great potential. It has been an honour teaching so many of them but there is more that can be done.

“I would love to have my own maths hub where schools could bring their pupils for a fantastic day of learning about maths.

“People’s perceptions of maths and science have changed since I started working and pupils are not always as interested. But I think we can change that and it can start in Enfield.”
