Enfield Borough Council has slashed its carbon footprint by 35 per cent in five years.

The local authority says it is leading the way among councils and has saved almost £1million per year on its energy bill.

Cabinet member for environment and community safety, Cllr Chris Bond, said: "After comprehensively reviewing the way the council conducts its business, we have invested more than £6 million to improve the energy performance of the Civic Centre, Charles Babbage House, Millfield Theatre, 11 large schools and Enfield's street lights.

"We have also increased the use of mobile technology and hot desks, whilst reducing the number of council owned buildings which means that the Council is on track to deliver its target of a 40 per cent reduction in Enfield Council's carbon emissions by 2020, helping us to do our bit to tackle climate change.”
