An entrepreneur and Dragon’s Den winner jetted out to Los Angeles after being invited to an Oscar event.

Laban Roomes, of Enfield, made a name for himself after appearing on the Dragon’s Den to gain investment for his gold-plating business in 2007.

The founder of Goldgenie presented his products at the Annual Uptown Pre-Oscar Gala in West Hollywood, where he presented gold-plated phones to Selma director Lee Daniels and actor David Oyelowo, who played Martin Luther King in the film.

Mr Roomes said: “I watched Selma as soon as it was released in the UK and it is such an honour to be attending this event and celebrate the work of such enormous talent. We had a great evening and it was magnificent to be given the chance to honour Lee and David in our own golden way.”
