Hundreds packed into a church to commemorate the life of a teenager who was murdered in Enfield.

Shaquan Sammy-Plummer, of Finsbury Park, was stabbed to death in Berkeley Gardens, Bush Hill Park, Enfield on January 30.

The 17-year-old was taken to a central London hospital in a critical condition but died shortly after he arrived.

Today, more than 300 packed into St Mellitus Church, in Tollington Park, Islington, for the teenager’s funeral.

Many in attendance wore an orange tie. Steve Fanus, the teenager's uncle, told the Enfield Independent why it was significant.

He said: “Orange was Shaq’s favourite colour and we wear it in his honour today. The number of people here today shows what a popular person he was and how many people’s lives he touched at such a young age.”

Family members, along with Mr Sammy Plummer's eight brothers and his sister, helped carry the 17-year-old’s coffin into the church.

Mr Fanus added: “He was very close with his family and they meant a lot to him. He has representatives from all the schools and colleges he went to. He was a special person.”
