A woman is taking on a gruelling running challenge for charity in the name of her brother.

Ruth Archer, of Hawthorn Grove, Enfield, has been inspired to run 2,015 miles in 2015 for brother Ben who was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.

The debilitating disease forced rugby-loving Mr Archer to stop playing the sport in 2009 during treatment for the life-threatening illness.

Inspired by her brother, Ms Archer will be taking on three marathons and many other running challenges to hit her £2,015 target for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society.

The teacher told the Enfield Independent: “I just wanted to do something different, it is a bigger challenge and it means so much so I feel it warranted a bigger task.

“It is a small charity and has only been around for a few years. I hope that the money I raise can go a long way for people like my brother and research into the disease.”

Ms Archer is on course to surpass her £2,015 target, having already raised £1,040.

She said: “My brother is an inspiration to me, he takes medication but this only controls the symptoms and he frequently gets flare-ups which can last for months and mostly effects his hands.”
