Police officers have been honoured for their bravery and work in the community.

PC Richard Talamadge and PC Sarah Burness were commended for their courage while attempting to save a man drowning in the River Lea.

In July 2013, the pair risked their own life as they dived into the river, in Towpath Road, in Edmonton, to drag the man out.

Unfortunately, despite best efforts, the man died at the scene.

Joyce Dale was also honoured for outstanding public spirit and service to the community of Palmers Green.

An honorary member of Winchmore Hill Local Policing Team for many years, Ms Dale phoned the police to let them know she spotted a man acting suspiciously in August 2014.

He was quickly arrested for taking and driving a vehicle, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance to appear in court.

Ms Dale was not able to collect her award after passing away recently however her son Stephen was on hand to collect her award.

Chief Superintendent Jane Johnson, borough commander for Enfield, said: "Commendation ceremonies allow me to award police officers and members of the public for their outstanding actions and commitment.

“Many of the citations demonstrate how commendees took charge of situations at the risk of their own lives in order to protect and serve our community. This reflects the good work taking place right across Enfield every day.

"Those receiving a commendation have gone above and beyond what is expected and I feel proud to recognise such excellent, professional and life-changing actions."
