Schoolchildren are setting to work on their own book of poetry.

Pupils at Ark John Keats Academy, in Bell Lane, are starting to write the book, which is yet to be given a title.

The school is named after the poet John Keats, and staff hope the book will help pupils learn about poetry.

Primary School headteacher Amy Baird said: “We have very high expectations of our pupils and we want learning to be fun. The poetry book will give them something that they can be proud of in years to come.

“We want our pupils to know that anything is achievable, and we are hoping it will be the first of many projects.”

Every Year 1 student will be given the opportunity to contribute to the book, both individually and in groups.

There will also be contributions from Year 1 teachers and teaching assistants. The pupils will start writing the book on June 29 and it will be released later in the year.
