It’s a double celebration for a farm after it was nominated for two prizes at the urban food awards.

The organic farm run by Capel Manor College at Forty Hall farm, in Forty Hill, is on the shortlist for the London leaves category, for its mixed salad.

The farm will also be in with a shout of winning the best banger category for its sausages.

Kate McGeevor, the farm’s manager, said “It is fantastic to have our mixed salad short-listed in the Awards.

“We sell our salad locally and through our veg bag scheme and our customers always tell us how good it is. We’re grateful to everyone who nominated us and are looking forward to the Award ceremony.”

The competition looks at the best food and drink grown in the capital and is run by London Food Link and the Mayor of London’s Food Team.

As well as the quality of the food, the judges are particularly interested in the enterprise that produces it.

Matthew Robinson, one of the Market Garden Growers, said: "We're really proud of our mixed salad, and we couldn't do it without the help of hardworking students from Capel Manor College and our growing team of Market Garden volunteers. They work tirelessly in all weathers to help us produce our salads and vegetables, and we really value their commitment and effort."

The awards ceremony will take place at the end of the summer.
