From the fast paced world of television to being a parish priest is certainly not your conventional career move.

However that is just the path Reverend Dr Chrichton Limbert has taken after working for almost three decades at the BBC, he is now the new priest at Christ Church, in Southgate.

Working as director for news and current affairs between 1983 and 2012, Fr Limbert was instituted as the thirteenth Vicar of the church by The Acting Bishop of Edmonton The Right Reverend Pete Broadbent.

“It certainly wasn’t part of any ‘career plan” he said. “My wife and I were both active parishioners in Berkhamsted and I felt more and more drawn to life as a priest.”

“One of my jobs at the BBC was to direct Breakfast with Frost every week for 2 years; my Sunday morning routine is now rather different, but much more rewarding.” He added.

The church has been celebrating its 400th anniversary since the Weald Chapel was built on the site and saw several pilgrimages made from Edmonton to Southgate to commemorate the former chapel.

At the same service, Reverend Hazel Miall, who has been Curate at the church for the past three years and is a former churchwarden, was licensed as Associate Priest.

Speaking on his future at the church, the new vicar said he was honoured to preside at the Battle of Britain Commemoration service last month and looks forward to the up and coming challenges.

He said: “I am looking forward to getting to know everyone in the parish – as the parish church we are here for everyone; those who currently come to church and those who don’t.

“At the 400th Anniversary Celebration back in May, the Bishop of London charged Hazel and I with forming a new partnership with the whole community to ‘Fan the rumour of God in this place’ – I am delighted to be able to now get started doing just that.”
