A woman is “very frightened” to leave her home after being assaulted by two people.

The 37-year-old from Enfield, who didn’t want to be named, said that she was attacked for no reason while walking to the hairdressers, and her pleas for help were ignored by the public.

The attack took place in Wilbury Way, Upper Edmonton, on September 27 shortly after four in the afternoon.

The woman said two teenagers approached her and began following her.

She said one was a short, white woman with long blonde hair, the other was a tall, thin black man.

When the pair followed her down the alleyway to Wilbury Way, the victim ran, but did not get away.

The woman said: “The girl grabbed my hair and tried to get my handbag. I was strangled and pushed to the ground.

"Someone, I couldn’t see who it was, pushed on my neck and pulled my hair.

“My head was down, I couldn’t see who it was. I was terrified.”

She managed to get herself free, and knocked on a nearby door to try and get help.

She expected to get help, but the householder refused to help her.

She said: “I knocked on a door in Wilbury Way, a man came out. I asked him for help, I said I was being attacked.

“He pushed me away, even though he could see my attackers. He said it wasn’t my house and I should go away.

“He was more concerned about his car, which was on his driveway.

“He shut the door, and I could see him watching from behind the curtain. He didn’t call the police.”

The woman said that once the door closed, the assault started again, with the girl grabbing her arm.

She added: “I felt helpless, I’d never felt like that in my whole life.

“I thought they were going to kill me.

“I went around the other side of the car to get away from them. I was pleading with them, I was saying sorry for whatever reason. I’ve never felt anything like this.”

The woman eventually managed to escape and run away, reporting the crime to Enfield Police.

When she spoke about the attack, she seemed angriest about how she was left without help.

“It made me so upset. I can’t believe people would ignore what happened.”

She also complained about the police response, saying that nothing has been done, and the case was given to a police officer who was off work.

She said she had complained on the police's non-emergency number 101, but had no response.

She added: “I’m very frightened to go out if it happens again.

“The trouble will continue – they can continue their lives and I can’t”.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed they are investigating an allegation of assault.
