An Enfield man is one of three to have received suspended prison sentences for cheating a casino out of more than £33,000.

Ozgur Aytekin, 40 of Southbury Road, was a member of a five-man gang who used a “card-swapping” technique to fool dealers at Grosvenor Casino in Edgware Road, Paddington, in 2014.

The quintet, who raised £33,600 via the scheme, all pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to conspiracy to cheat.

During a hearing on February 9, Aytekin was handed a 12 month jail term suspended for two years and was ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid work and has been issued with a three-month curfew between 11.30pm and 6am.

Co-conspirator Ali Kuyar, 44, of Hampden Road, Tottenham, was handed the same sentence as Aytekin.

At the same hearing, Murat Kolcak, 43, of The Terrace, Penryn, Cornwall, was sentenced to nine months in jail suspended for two years, as well as 200 hours unpaid work and an order banning him from casinos in the UK for 12 months.

Between 12 April and 2 May 2014, Aytekin and his fellow players would swap cards with each other covertly to achieve high value hands against the dealer in three card poker games over nine separate days.

Two of the men would sit next to each other and exchange cards while another gang member distracted the dealer.

The other two men would either act as lookouts  or would collect winnings on their friends’ behalf after collecting the ill-gotten chips from them in the casino’s toilets.

Ergun Yasar, 32, of Chettle Court, Crouch End, is due to be sentenced for his part in the scam on February 17.

A fifth man, Tarik Nergiz, 32, of Osbaldeston Road, Stoke Newington, failed to appear for sentencing. A bail warrant has issued by the court.
