SENIOR members of a crisis-hit charity claim they resigned because they were "treated badly".

Former chief executive of Age UK Enfield Tony Seagrott quit last week – on the same day as his wife, Lisa, the operations director.

They accused board members of acting “irresponsibly” and treating them “badly”.

Meanwhile actress Lindsey Coulson, who has been a patron of the charity for ten years, also stepped down at an annual general meeting last week.

She told the Enfield Independent: “I attended the meeting to resign as patron and make my voice heard, but I left feeling unsure about the whole process of electing the current board members.

“I found the meeting to be very confused and disorganised. I am uncomfortable with the way the organisation seems to be run at present and do not want to be associated with it at this current time.”

She added: “I have really enjoyed being a patron of Age UK Enfield for ten years and I am very sad I feel I can no longer be a part of it.

“I have had a close relationship with Tony and Lisa Seagroatt, who are wonderful, caring individuals and worked hard to make the charity what it is today.

“They have always treated me with the utmost respect and true professionalism.”

Ms Coulson is best known as an actress for her role as Carol Jackson in the BBC soap opera Eastenders.

In a statement, Mr Seagroatt said: “Some board members of Age UK Enfield have acted irresponsibly and treated us badly. “We have taken legal advice and feel we are entitled to resign and take proceedings against the board for constructive dismissal.

“Lindsey Coulson, Patron of Age UK Enfield for 12 years, publicly resigned at the charity’s AGM held on 4 February 2016 in support of our resignations.”

A whistleblower said: “People felt they were not given the chance to vote, and their voice be heard.

“It was so bad - Lindsey Coulson, who has been a patron for ten years, and the members of the trustee didn't know she was.

“They have their own agenda, and Age UK will go under if the trustee board is not changed.”

Age UK declined to comment.
