Second-placed Enfield Water Polo Club continued their fine London League form with a 20-7 victory over Blue Marlin at Southgate on Wednesday.

Hosts Enfield took a 2-0 lead inside just 40 seconds, with Rob Lucas slamming home two well-worked goals for the home side to set the tone for the rest of the game.

Enfield continued in that trend throughout the first quarter and the match was as good as over as a contest when Lucas completed a quick-fire hat-trick.

Further goals from Dax Cain, Andy Rolle, Tony Matthews and John Jackson (2) helped push the Enfield lead out to 8-2 at the end of the first quarter.

The home side’s dominance continued after the re-start but Enfield were unable to make their superiority pay on a number of occasions.

Lucas did add his fourth from two metres and Matthews got his second to put the north Londoners 10-3 ahead at the end of the second half.

Blue Marlin rallied in the second half and hit back three times to reduce the deficit, before Alex Waller, Richard Waller and the rampant Lucas further extended Enfield’s lead.

As Blue Marlin tired, Enfield took advantage by rotating their squad and further building the score to lead 20-6, with goals from Tom Mendham, Cain, A.Waller, R.Waller, Rolle and Matthews.

A late consolation from the away side wasn’t enough to concern Enfield, who have now scored a whopping 118 times in their nine London League games.

Enfield return to action at Guildford on Thursday, September 18.
