Enfield Town manager Bradley Quinton says teams have changed how they treat the Towners after Mark Kirby's late strike secured a 1-0 win over Bury Town on Saturday.

Captain Kirby scored the winner in injury time - minutes after coming close with a head effort - as the Towners ended their two-game losing streak to move up to seventh in the Isthmian Premier Division standings, just two points shy of the play-off places.

And after suffering just one league defeat in their last ten, Town have established themselves as one of the form teams in the division, leading Quinton to suggest opponents are now setting out to frustrate his side.

He explained: "Teams seem to be starting to change their mentality when they play us and seem to be starting to set out to be happy to come away with a point.

"Teams know they are in for a tough afternoon and they set up with two banks of four and make sure they are hard to beat rather than risking too much by attacking us and getting picked off.

"We have people watching our opponents every game and we are working hard on what we believe in. We have to adjust everything now; it is not a position we are used to and very different from the end of last season and beginning of this.

"They (Bury Town) turned up with three substitutes, two balls and a few cones and asked us to borrow some - I don't know if they were trying to unsettle us or were just badly prepared," he added Despite the win, Quinton acknowledged his side had not been at their best and found themselves frustrated in their attempts to break down the resolute Bury on a number of occasions.

"I think we can all say it was not one of our best performances but I was pleased that we ground it out with the opportunities we had and we got out with what we deserved really.

"That said, right at the death it took a great save from Nathan McDonald to preserve the point. He had not had anything to do in the second half so he must have been cold but it says a lot about his concentration that he was able to make an excellent save."

Fifth-placed Leiston occupy the final Premier Division play-off spot and sit two points and as many places ahead of the Towners having played a game less, but Quinton says his side are well placed to make a push for the play-offs over the festive period.

"It is a good position to be in going into Christmas," agreed Quinton. "With games coming quick and fast there is the opportunity to pick up lots of points and build momentum too.

"They have all pulled together so far and touch wood it will stay that way. The players are all going to be called upon over the Christmas period and they will all get their chance now so this is it; it is a down to them to stick together and train hard to keep themselves ticking over."

The former Braintree Town midfielder has added another new face to his squad this week, with FC Broxbourne Borough winger Tony Burke linking up with the Towners.

"I was really pleased with him in training on Thursday night," said Quinton. "His crossing and first touch are both excellent and he can play on either the left or the right-hand side of midfield.

"We might have a few new signings too over the next few weeks," he added, before confirming former Crystal Palace striker Vences Bola has not joined the club, contrary to reports.
