Denise Payet suffered disappointment at the French Junior and Cadet Open in Metz but still reached the last 16 of the doubles competition.

The Enfield County student, 13, and partner Kate Cheer were beaten 3-0 in the last 16 by French duo Camille Lutz and Vony Ange Randriantsoa (9-11, 9-11, 7-11).

Payet, pictured, was eliminated in the group stage of the singles, winning one of her three matches, against Julie Poncin of Luxembourg 3-1 (11-4, 9-11, 11-9, 11-8).

She then went into a consolation draw, where she lost 3-0 to Sophie Walloe of Denmark (6-11, 12-14, 3-11).

Payet also played in the older age-group Junior team event, alongside Tin-Tin Ho and Emily Bolton.

The team was eliminated in the group stage, having been beaten by Romania B, Germany B and a combined squad from Spain, Hungary and Russia.
