Mauricio Pochettino revealed Spurs were the better side despite going down to Manchester City 1-0.

A Sergio Aguero striker in the first half was enough to give the visitors all three points but Spurs had more than 20 shots at goal.

Speaking after the match, the Spurs boss was “very disappointed” with the outcome.

He said: “We are very disappointed with the result but happy with the performance. We deserved more this afternoon; we managed the game and the tempo and created more chances.

The most important thing is that we created a lot of chances and unlucky not to score.”

The lilywhites came flying out the blocks with three early chances. But the counter-attacking threat of Sergio Aguero and David Silva tormented the Spurs backline.

But the home side continued to press and Harry Kane could have done better after shrugging off Martin Demichelis. Yet he failed to spot Nacer Chadli in space with the goal at his mercy and the chance was wasted.

The result leaves Spurs seven points off Manchester United with three games to play and all but ends  hopes of a top four finish.

Pochettino said: “We are sixth on the table with three games to play, and we need to try and get all three points next Saturday.”

The Spurs manager also praised Hart for “keeping City in the game” and Aguero, who now has ten goals in seven matches against the North London side.

Spurs now go to Stoke City before facing Hull in their final home match of the season in a fortnight.
