Enfield Town were beaten 2-1 at Romford in their latest friendly on Saturday.

The visitors were under pressure early on and summer signing David Hughes was called into action to make an excellent reflex stop against the home striker.

The hosts opened the scoring just after the half hour mark but Bradley Quinton's side responded impressively and equalised within a minute.

Samir Bihmoutine levelled the match with a superb left-footed strike for the Towners.

Jon Constant was introduced at the break and the forward went close but he fired wide of the target.

Joe Stevens also had an opportunity but his header flew over the crossbar.

Claudiu Vilcu also headed wide of the target before Enfield conceded a penalty after a foul in the area by Larry Asare.

The penalty was saved by goalkeeper Anthony Page but the Romford player followed up to net the rebound effort.

The hosts almost added a third late on but the effort was disallowed.

Enfield Under-21s also enjoyed a decent workout after a 2-1 defeat to an experienced Cockfosters side on Saturday.

A Ben Andreos penalty fired Cockfosters in front and Gary Simmonds doubled their lead.

Enfield won a penalty when Kenan Gokcimen was fouled in the area and Kieran Asumadu-Sakyi scored the consolation effort.

The Towners, who faced a Crystal Palace XI yesterday, travel to St Margaretsbury tomorrow (Thursday) as they continue their build-up to the new season.

Enfield follow this up with a trip to Thurrock on Saturday. It will be their second visit to Ship Lane in a week after the Romford game was also played there.

But the Towners' match against Brimsdown on the same day has now been called off.
