Enfield Town boss Bradley Quinton praised his side for keeping their belief after claiming a first Ryman Premier Division win of the season.

The Towners lost their opening three games of the campaign but finally got off the mark on Saturday after a 1-0 victory at home to Burgess Hill Town.

Quinton said: “I was really pleased with the guys’ performance and the only frustration was the goals we deserved did not come.

“They stuck with it and kept believing and plugging away so we thoroughly deserved the win.”

Enfield dominated the match but had to wait until the final quarter of an hour to score their winner through Corey Whitely’s strike.

Quinton, whose side host Leiston tonight, said: “I think the score flattered them. We were far the better side and I was pleased the guys got over the line. If it was a boxing match then the ref would have probably stopped it.”

It was the first league match this season where Bobby Devyne was paired from the start with Whitely and Quinton felt it had a positive impact.

The manager said: “It made a huge difference with the goalscorers coming back into the team. Everyone would miss the likes of Bobby and Corey who provide a threat that no-one wants to face.

“These guys are very good and I’m sure Bobby will get a hatful this season.”

Enfield travel to Canvey Island on Saturday and are at home to East Thurrock United on Bank Holiday Monday.

Quinton said: “Our two opponents this weekend are well matched sides and will take some beating as I expect them to be in or around the play-off spots this season.

“But we do not fear anyone and we will let our ability do the talking.”

The Towners have been drawn away to Billericay Town in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup on September 12.
