Enfield Town’s winless run against East Thurrock United continued after being held to a 1-1 draw yesterday.

The Towners went into the match hoping to secure a second Ryman Premier Division win of the campaign but were pegged back in the second half as their run without a victory against United stretched to 17 matches.

The opening goal of the game came after eight minutes when Bradley Quinton’s side took the lead.

Darnell Wynter found himself in space and curled a shot from the edge of the area past visiting goal-keeper Lukas Lidakevicius.East Thurrock responded and enjoyed a decent spell of possession without threatening too much.

But Harry Honesty almost grabbed an equaliser when his shot was cleared off the line by Harold Joseph.

The visitors’ pressure was rewarded in the second half with the equaliser in the 67th minute. Honesty set up Tom Wraight and his low shot found the net.

The Towners had a few opportunities towards the end but could not find a winner as they had to settle for a point.

Enfield are 21st in the table with just four points from their opening seven matches.

Quinton’s side produced a disappointing performance on Saturday after falling to a 2-0 defeat at Canvey Island.

It was an afternoon to forget for the Towners as they suffered their fifth loss of the campaign.

Enfield got off to a slow start and were punished after conceding the opener in the sixth minute.

Nathan McDonald made a mistake after being put under pressure by Dan Gilchrist and Martin Tuohy took full advantage to tap into the net.

The visitors thought they should have been awarded a penalty when Bobby Devyne appeared to be caught by goalkeeper Conor Gough but the striker was booked for simulation.

The Towners’ task got even tougher after 18 minutes when Canvey Island extended their lead.

Tambeson Eyong burst through and set up Tuohy for his second goal of the game.

Devyne was looking the biggest threat for Enfield and he was only denied a goal by a decent save from Gough.

The Towners’ best chance of the match fell to Mickey Parcell but his shot was kept out again by Gough early on in the second half.

Former Arsenal defender George Brislen-Hall was handed his competitive debut late on for Parcell.

But Quinton’s side finished the game with 10 men when Alex Cathline was dismissed for an altercation with Steve Sheehan.

Town will look to claim only their second win of the season this Saturday when they host Bognor Regis Town.
