St John’s Under-11 footballers became Middlesex County football champions over the weekend after a penalty shootout victory.

The team will now play in the south east of England regional final of the English Schools Football Association Cup.

The achievement sees St John’s Prep School become the first independent school from Middlesex to have this honour.

St John’s drew 1-1 with John Keble after a goal from Flavio Gomes. This was followed by a goalless draw with West Lodge.

All three teams finished on equal points and goal difference.

The tournament was decided on penalties between St John’s and John Keble because they scored one more goal than West Lodge.

Sean Kanu and Takumi Satoh scored for St John’s before goalkeeper Philip Pawlik saved a penalty to help them to victory.
