Enfield Town player-manager Brad Quinton heaped praise on his players after they thumped Needham Market 3-0 to register their fifth win in a row in a dominant display.

The Towners needed a victory on Saturday to maintain pressure on fifth-placed Dulwich Hamlet and kept their faint Ryman Premier Division play-off hopes alive with a resounding win.

Bobby Devyne put the side ahead ten minutes before half-time when he jinked the ball past defender Keiran Morphew and fired in a left-footed shot that squirmed past goalkeeper Danny Gay.

Quinton was satisfied with what he had seen from the players in the first period and told the players at half-time that if they kept up their performance they would soon be rewarded.

“It could’ve been more in the first half,” he said.

“I just told them to keep pressing, keep working hard and the goal will come. Luckily we scored early on and it could’ve easily been more. We could’ve scored three or four more by the end.”

The 37-year-old’s team talk appeared to have an immediate impact, as three minutes into the second period Harold Joseph buried a second from the rebound after a quick corner.

Now full of confidence, the Towners bagged a late third from Quinton himself, on as a sub for Alfred Mugabo, wrapping up the win with a beautiful lob over the head of Gay and sealed five wins on the trot, a feat he called ‘awesome’.

Quinton said: “We’ve worked hard. We got together and set a target of wins and we take each game as it comes.

“We work hard in training and it’s been awesome. Everyone has been performing.”

Enfield may have a chance to qualify for the play-offs, although they will have to beat champions-elect Hampton & Richmond on the final day of the season this Saturday, and now hope Needham Market can do them a favour against Dulwich Hamlet in midweek.

“We play for everything.” Quinton said.

“We go to Hampton & Richmond on form – we’re not worried about the game. The lowest we can finish is sixth. The title is theirs, so going into the game there will be a party atmosphere.”

No matter what happens, the ex-Braintree player stressed that he was happy with how the season has gone, and will soon be prepping the players for the Middlesex County Cup final against Northwood on Saturday, May 7.

He said: “I’m pleased [with the season]. We have another cup final to play in May and we’re all really looking forward to it.”
