North Enfield suffered a six-wicket loss in a rain-affected game against Allenburys & County Hall in Herts Division Two B on Saturday.

Losing the toss, North Enfield were put into bat and made a solid enough start before captain Kieron Jones (19) was caught in the slips with the score on 24.

The remaining opener Sam Pitcher (20) then steadied the ship with Zach Brown, but when he fell with the score on 51, it was the start of a middle order collapse.

With Allenburys using conditions well and getting the ball in good areas, North Enfield slipped to 68-6. Number eight Derrick Sanders (40) batted well with the tail to both use up the overs and get the total up to 137 all out.

Allenburys & County Hall’s reply got off to a shaky start with Sanders (1-24) taking a wicket in the first over and Abdul Vahid Khan (2-22) bowling his customary immaculate line and length.

Allenburys & County Hall were 2-13 after 12 overs, a score that could have been worse but for missed chances.

John Schlaepfer (55 not out) batted well and kept the runs ticking over and when captain Andrew Szemiako (23 not out) came to the crease only 37 runs were needed.

The side reached the target for the loss of four wickets in 41.2 overs.

But an eight-wicket stand of 67 frustrated North Enfield until the partnership was broken by Darren Atkins (2-19) and finished off by Mahroof Ebrahim (1-0) leaving Hatfield & Crusaders on 136 from 47 overs.

After losing an early wicket in their reply, a 101-run partnership between Ben Conway (39) and Faizel Patel (64) nearly got North Enfield over the line in style.

The side lost four more wickets although they still managed to claim victory.
