Enfield Town beat a Barnet XI 2-1 in a pre-season friendly at the QES on Saturday as both set of fans took part in a minutes’ applause in memory of young Barnet supporter Chris East.

Goals from Corey Whitely and Ricky Gabriel were enough to seal the comeback win for Town after they went 1-0 down courtesy of Shaun Batt.

The home side went on the attack early on as Gabriel had a chance saved by Bees goalkeeper Kai McKenzie-Lyle.

Barnet got an early penalty in the ten minute which gave Batt the opportunity to open the scoring but his spot-kick was well saved by Nathan McDonald.

In the 18th minute, Whitely skipped passed the League Two side’s defence but his shot rolled wide.

Ten minutes before the break, Batt made amends for his missed penalty as he buried the ball past McDonald.

However, Town levelled back two minutes before half-time when Mark Kirby completed a dummy and let in Whitely who hit the ball into the net off the underside of the bar.

The home side looked the more confident of the two going into the second half as in the 47th minute Gabriel added a second as he strode down the left and rolled the ball passed McKenzie-Lyle as he went one-on-one with the keeper.

Sub keeper Bobby Fannela almost caused a scare for the home fans as a Bees attack ended with a lob over him which only cleared the crossbar by inches.

Fannela then went onto make two double saves in the dying minutes of the game to ensure the score finished 2-1.

The club have launched an innovative Fanfunding scheme designed to allow Town fans to support their club via a monthly subscription.

The new scheme, called #GoToTown, will allow supporters to pay for membership and season tickets on a monthly basis and will also have access to match highlights, home shirts, matchday programmes and cup match tickets.

Chairman Paul Reed said: “As we look to take the next step up, both on and off the field, fundraising activities will become increasingly important, and this scheme fits the bill in terms of providing flexible, good value options for supporters in line with the need to help sustain and boost the club’s regular income.”

The club is working along with Tifosy, which help clubs raise funds online by connecting them with their global fanbase.

James Pollock, co-founder of Tifosy, said: “At Tifosy we’re proud to be helping Enfield Town FC with their new scheme. The club is a great example of the success that can be achieved with a supporter ownership model, and we look forward to helping the team reach their ambitions in the short and longer term.”
